BNP Leader Killed in Chuadanga Factional Clash Over VGF Rice, TCB Cards
A local BNP leader was killed, and two others were injured in a factional clash in Chuadanga’s Sadar upazila on Saturday morning, reportedly over the allocation of VGF rice and TCB cards.
The deceased, Rafiqul Islam Rafiq (50), was the former organizing secretary of the Titudah Union BNP in Chuadanga Sadar upazila.
According to witnesses, the dispute broke out between Rafiq and the supporters of Titudah Union BNP President Milon Mia and General Secretary Abul Hashem Toton over the distribution of Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) cards and 10 kg VGF rice cards for the underprivileged ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr.
The argument escalated, leading to an attack on Rafiq by the rival group using locally made sharp weapons, resulting in his death on the spot.
Superintendent of Chuadanga District Police, Khandaker Golam Maula, confirmed that a police team had been dispatched to investigate the incident. He added that law enforcement had been deployed to restore order and ensure security.
Following the clash, tension gripped the area, prompting local traders to shut down their shops out of fear.
Meanwhile, Mirza Faridul Islam Shiplu, Organizing Secretary of Chuadanga District BNP, alleged that members of the Awami League had infiltrated BNP ranks to provoke the conflict for political gain.
