In a show of solidarity with the people of Myanmar, Bangladesh has swiftly responded to the devastating 7.7-magnitude earthquake that struck northern Myanmar on March 28.

On Sunday, two Bangladesh Air Force and Army aircraft (C-130 and CASA) landed at Yangon Airport, delivering 16.5 tonnes of emergency relief supplies, including tents, food packets, medicines, water, hygiene kits, plastic sheets, mosquito nets, solar lights, and other essential items.

This marks the first shipment, with additional consignments to follow.

Bangladesh Ambassador to Myanmar, Monwar Hossain, formally handed over the relief materials to Yangon Chief Minister Soe Thein during a brief ceremony at the airport.

Additionally, Bangladesh is prepared to deploy a 50-member rescue team, comprising a 21-member medical unit, engineers, and fire service and civil defense personnel, to assist in search and rescue operations, the ambassador stated.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their families, and all those affected," he expressed.

As a close neighbor, Bangladesh remains committed to supporting the people of Myanmar in their time of need, he added.
