Australian visas will now be processed in Dhaka rather than New Delhi

Australia has informed Bangladesh that visas for Bangladeshi citizens will now be processed at its high commission in Dhaka.  

On Thursday, Australian Home Minister Tony Burke called Bangladesh’s Home Adviser, Lt Gen (retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, to convey the decision. The home adviser then relayed the information to the council of advisers, stating that the change would take effect immediately.  

According to CA’s Deputy Press Secretary, Abul Kalam Azad Majumder, Chief Adviser Prof. Muhammad Yunus had requested this shift during Australian Home Minister Burke’s visit to Bangladesh in October last year. Previously, Australian visas for Bangladeshi nationals were processed in New Delhi.
