Around 70 Foreign Investors Visit KEPZ and NSEZ in Chattogram

Approximately 70 foreign investors and company representatives from countries including South Korea, China, Japan, Australia, and India visited the Korean Export Processing Zone (KEPZ) in Anwara and the National Special Economic Zone (NSEZ) in Mirsarai, Chattogram, on Monday.

The visits marked the beginning of the Bangladesh Investment Summit 2025, which officially commenced with on-site tours to two of the country’s key industrial zones, largely led by foreign entrepreneurs. Organized by the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA), the visit aimed to showcase the investment-friendly environment and the potential for future growth.

Nobel Laureate and Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus is scheduled to formally inaugurate the four-day summit on Wednesday at Hotel Intercontinental in Dhaka. The event will continue through Thursday.

During the morning hours from 9:00 am to noon, the visiting investors toured several factories operated by the renowned Korean conglomerate Youngone Corporation within KEPZ. Following the tour, BIDA arranged a presentation to provide insights into the operations at KEPZ for both foreign and local investors.

Youngone Corporation, a global leader in the textile and apparel industry, manages KEPZ and has played a pioneering role in Bangladesh’s industrial growth. The zone is dedicated to sustainable, high-tech industrial development and features 48 green-certified factories spread over 7 million square feet, alongside modern logistics and warehousing infrastructure.

KEPZ’s strategic location—on the left bank of the Karnaphuli River and just 15 minutes from Chattogram’s Shah Amanat International Airport via the Karnaphuli Tunnel—makes it Bangladesh’s largest privately-owned, eco-friendly export processing zone, spanning 2,492 acres.

Thanks to extensive reforestation, Youngone has transformed the once barren land into a thriving green industrial zone, reaffirming its commitment to sustainability and international standards.

Workers at the factories, established through foreign investment, expressed strong satisfaction with their working environment to both local and visiting stakeholders.

Upon arrival, the investor delegation was received by Kihak Sung, Chairman of Youngone Corporation, who accompanied them throughout their inspection. Applauding the interim government’s proactive approach, Sung encouraged the visiting investors to consider Bangladesh a promising destination for future investments.

“You can count on this new administration,” Sung said, emphasizing the government's sincere efforts to facilitate foreign investment. He remarked that while previous governments expressed interest in foreign direct investment, the current administration is taking concrete actions to support it.

Highlighting Bangladesh’s resilience, Sung invited investors to explore opportunities in KEPZ and beyond. In response to a Chinese investor's question about investment challenges, he acknowledged some administrative complexities but affirmed that Bangladesh remains one of the most profitable destinations for investment.

Sung added that Youngone has consistently expanded its footprint in Bangladesh due to the country's favorable investment climate.

During the visit, BIDA experts also delivered a multimedia presentation detailing the investment incentives and facilities available at KEPZ.

The Bangladesh Investment Summit 2025 brings together global investors, industry leaders, and business executives to explore the country's rapidly evolving investment landscape. As the summit continues in Dhaka until April 10, Bangladesh positions itself as one of the most dynamic and promising investment destinations in the world.
