Bangladesh exported garments worth $462 million through India over a 15-month period
The total garment exports in the most recently recorded fiscal year amounted to approximately $36 billion.

Over a period of 15 months, Bangladesh's garment industry transshipped more than 34,900 tonnes of apparel products, valued at $462.34 million, through India to 36 countries. The exports, covering the period from January 2024 to March 2025, included a diverse range of clothing items such as blouses, trousers, T-shirts, and baby garments. Major markets for these shipments included the United States, EU countries like Germany and France, and Asian destinations like Japan and South Korea. These shipments were routed through India as part of regional trade facilitation. The total export value reached Tk 5,640.5 crore, according to data from the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association.
Top non-EU importers included the United Arab Emirates, Australia, and Canada, with South Africa and Chile also being key markets. Industry analysts attribute the success to Bangladesh's competitive manufacturing costs and India's strategic transshipment infrastructure.
However, on April 8, India unexpectedly canceled the transshipment route for Bangladesh, causing disruption for some local exporters.
In the 2023-24 fiscal year, Bangladesh's total garment exports amounted to about $36 billion.
