A new banner has been displayed at BSMMU, with Sheikh Mujib's name removed
On Wednesday night, protesters took down several nameplates at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University.

The old nameplates of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) have been taken down, and new banners with a different name have been installed. The university has been renamed Bangladesh Medical University (BMU).
On Saturday morning, banners displaying the new name were spotted across various blocks of the university campus. Sources reveal that doctors, staff, and students from the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement were responsible for putting up the new banners. However, the university administration has yet to release an official statement on the matter.
Dr. Md Ruhul Kuddus Biplob, private secretary to the vice-chancellor, commented on the name change, stating, "I saw the new name banners for the first time on Saturday morning. The name chosen is one of several under consideration by the university authorities. Discussions with the ministry are ongoing, and an official decision is expected in the next 2-3 working days."
Professor Dr. AK Azad, pro-vice-chancellor (administration), added, "No final decision has been made regarding the name change. Several options are being considered. A new official announcement will be made after consultations with students and approval from the authorities."
Earlier, on Wednesday night, protesters removed signboards bearing the name of Bangabandhu from various locations within the university. The first signboard was taken down from C Block, followed by additional nameplates throughout the campus.
