PM Directs Transparent Implementation of Family Card Programme
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Monday directed the authorities to ensure the nationwide rollout of the Family Card programme through a transparent process supported by a credible and accurate database of beneficiaries.
The directive was issued during a meeting at the Cabinet Division of the Bangladesh Secretariat, where officials reviewed plans for the phased expansion of the programme, according to a press release from the Prime Minister’s Press Wing.
The meeting assessed progress on the initiative, one of the key commitments outlined in the BNP’s election manifesto, and discussed a roadmap for its gradual implementation across the country.
The Prime Minister stressed the need for a practical implementation plan, stronger coordination among relevant ministries and agencies, and the effective use of modern technology to ensure the programme is rolled out smoothly nationwide.
He also emphasised the importance of developing a reliable and widely accepted database to accurately identify genuine beneficiaries so that Family Card benefits reach eligible recipients fairly, efficiently and transparently. Tarique Rahman instructed officials to maintain the highest standards of transparency and accountability throughout the processes of data collection, verification and beneficiary selection.
Social Welfare Minister Dr AZM Zahid Hossain, State Minister for Social Welfare Farzana Sharmin, Prime Minister’s Adviser Mahdi Amin, Principal Secretary ABM Abdus Sattar, Chief SDG Coordinator at the Prime Minister’s Office Prof Dr SM Abdul Awal, BNP National Executive Committee Special Secretary Belayet Hossain Mridha, and senior officials from the relevant ministries and agencies attended the meeting.
