The North American social platform “Ekattorer Prohori” has strongly condemned the demolition of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s residence at Dhanmondi 32.

A statement was issued on behalf of the organization by 44 expatriates, including freedom fighters, artists, organizers, professors, lawyers, and activists on Friday. The statement called February 5 another "tragic black day" for Bangladesh's democracy-loving people.

The signatories emphasized that the historic Dhanmondi 32 residence, a symbol of Bangladesh’s liberation history and Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s political career, had been attacked for the second time. They noted that the remaining parts of the fire-damaged house were destroyed on that day.

The statement further highlighted that similar attacks have occurred on Bangabandhu’s monuments and plaques across Bangladesh, with the homes of his political followers also being demolished.

The expatriates expressed their deep sorrow and anger, noting that as the demolition of Dhanmondi 32 was broadcast live online in Bangladesh, they, along with countless Bangladeshis around the world, watched in distress from New York.

They warned that this incident was a severe threat to the country’s future, comparing it to the dark days of the 1971 Liberation War.

In response to the crisis, the signatories called on all political parties, artists, writers, journalists, intellectuals, and conscious citizens who support the ideals of the Liberation War to unite in defense of Bangladesh’s independence and democratic values.
