Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) A M M Nasir Uddin emphasized that the commission has no intention of participating in politics but is focused on ensuring a free and fair election.

Nasir Uddin stated, "We do not want to engage in politics. We will operate within the framework of laws, rules, and regulations. Our goal is to create a fair environment where all participants can compete freely. To achieve this, we aim to prepare a level playing field."

The CEC made these comments at an event in Dhaka on Sunday, during which the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) handed over laptops, scanners, and other equipment to assist with updating the voter list.

He further noted, "Historically, the UNDP has been a key development partner for Bangladesh. When they met with me in December, I requested their support for updating the voter list and improving the electoral process. I am impressed with how quickly they have responded, providing laptops, scanners, and cameras, which are being distributed today."

"I hope this support will also help ensure a free and fair national election in the future. The voter list update will begin on January 20, and today, hundreds of laptops, scanners, and cameras are being distributed. Insha'Allah, more equipment will continue to arrive, supporting the entire registration process," he added.

"We are updating the voter list to address any doubts. We are involving many people in the process, and we are optimistic that all concerns will be resolved, Inshallah," he said, responding to a question from reporters at an event at Nirbachan Bhaban.

Nasir Uddin mentioned that they plan to complete the voter list update within six months, with approximately 65,000 individuals involved in the large-scale program.

"We will make intense efforts to complete this task within the next six months," he said.

The CEC explained that 65,000 people will be working at various levels to ensure the timely completion of this major initiative, with the Election Commission aiming to complete the task efficiently.

In response to a question about BNP's call for holding the national election in the middle of the year, the CEC clarified that the commission avoids engaging in political debates and will remain within the boundaries of laws, rules, and regulations. "We are focused on conducting free and fair elections," he stated.

Asked if the Commission is working within the government's declared timeline, the CEC confirmed that their preparations align with the timeframe set by the chief adviser. "We are working with that in mind," he affirmed.

Regarding the UNDP's assistance, Nasir Uddin expressed gratitude, noting that the Election Commission would continue seeking support from UNDP throughout the electoral process. "We hope they will keep supporting us," he concluded.
