The new commission will remain free from any ideological influence or bias, says ACC chairman
The newly established Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) will operate without influence from political ideologies or biases, Chairman Mohammad Abdul Momen assured upon assuming office today.
Speaking to journalists in the afternoon, Momen emphasized, "We will remain neutral and strictly adhere to the law. We seek everyone's support to tackle the challenges Bangladesh is facing after August 5. The [student] movement was initiated to address inequality, and corruption lies at its root. By reducing corruption across all sectors, inequality will diminish. I am confident we can make significant progress in combating corruption."
In the meantime, Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) urged the newly appointed chairman and commissioners to promote transparency by publicly disclosing their income and asset statements. The TIB also requested the ACC to clarify its stance on corruption allegations and any political affiliations.
Responding to these calls, Momen stated, "Within the next seven days, we will publish the asset statements of myself and the entire commission."
Earlier in the day, both the new chairman and Commissioner (Investigation), Miah Muhammad Ali Akbar Azizi, formally assumed their roles at the ACC.
