Journalist Golam Sarwar has called for the withdrawal of the defamation case filed against him.

Standing with his wife, two young children, and a group of well-wishers, journalist Golam Sarwar recounted the challenges he has faced over the past four years due to a defamation case brought against him by an influential family in the port city. "The case was filed by a brother of then-Land Minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury after I published a report," Sarwar said during a human chain protest held in front of the Chattogram Press Club this morning.
"I have endured physical, financial, and mental hardships while battling this case for the last four years," he explained. "I had to move out of my rented house in the city and send my family back to our village due to financial difficulties and security concerns." Sarwar stressed that his only "fault" was reporting on their misconduct. "Now, I demand the withdrawal of the case against me," he declared.
On November 1, 2020, Sarwar was found unconscious near a canal in Sitakunda's Kumira, stripped to his underwear and begging for his life, vowing not to report any more news. A video of the incident went viral on social media at the time.
This occurred just days after Sarwar had published an article on a Chattogram news portal accusing Anisuzzaman Chowdhury, the land minister’s brother, of land grabbing. In response, Anisuzzaman filed a defamation suit against Sarwar, seeking Tk 100 crore in damages.
