Adviser Mahfuj stated that India attempted to depict the July uprising as a militant, anti-Hindu, and Islamist-driven takeover
In his Facebook post, he emphasized that, unlike in the past, the people of Bangladesh are now united and dignified, and they will defend their honor until their last breath.
Interim government adviser Mahfuj Alam has called on India to unequivocally acknowledge the July uprising and the democratic struggle of students and the people in Bangladesh.
In a post on his verified Facebook page on Wednesday morning, he wrote:
On India and Its Relationship with Bangladesh
"India must recognize the July uprising and the student-people’s democratic struggle in Bangladesh without hesitation. This is the foundation upon which any future relationship between the two nations should be built. Ignoring the significance of this uprising will harm the ties between the two countries.
Indian allies and Indophiles in Bengal believe that bypassing the July uprising and overlooking the fascist atrocities will come without consequences. They are mistaken. People are watching closely. The Indian establishment attempted to frame the uprising as militant, anti-Hindu, and an Islamist takeover. But this propaganda and provocation have failed.
After nearly two decades, Bangladeshi people are enjoying unfiltered democratic rights. Truth is prevailing, and falsehoods are crumbling—permanently.
India must move beyond its post-1975 playbook and adapt to the realities of the new Bangladesh. The July uprising represents a democratic, generational, and responsible struggle, one that will endure over time.
Unlike before, the people of Bangladesh are now united and dignified. They will defend their dignity until their last breath.
The rallying cries of 'Delhi or Dhaka, Dhaka, Dhaka!' and 'Motherland or Shahadat!' are resonating across the nation, symbolizing the unity of a proud and democratic Bangladesh. India must avoid making this united Bangladesh its adversary.
Post-1971, we faltered as a polity. Not this time."
Mahfuj Alam’s post underscores his view that India must recognize the democratic aspirations of Bangladesh and respect the spirit of the July uprising to foster meaningful bilateral relations.
