Another case has been filed regarding the violence in Chattogram following the imprisonment of Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, spokesperson for the Sammilita Sanatan Jagaran Jote (United Sanatan Awakening Alliance).

Mohammad Ullah, identifying himself as a businessman, lodged the complaint at the Kotwali Police Station on Tuesday, according to OC Abdul Karim.

This brings the total to six cases filed over the violence and the killing of lawyer Saiful Islam Alif in Chattogram. Of these, three were initiated by the police. The latest case names 29 individuals, including two former ward councillors, as accused, alongside 40 to 50 unidentified persons.

Among the accused are members of the Chhatra League, Jubo League, Swechchha Sebak League, Awami League, and ISKCON. The first accused is Jahar Lal Hazari, a former councillor of Andarikalla ward No. 32 and a leader of the city’s Awami League unit. The second accused is Shaibal Das Sumon, councillor of Jamalkhan ward No. 21. Both former councillors have reportedly gone into hiding since the government’s fall on August 5. Advocate Jinat Sohana Chowdhury is listed as the third accused in the case.

In his complaint, Mohammad Ullah stated that on November 26, he visited a lawyer's chamber at the Chattogram Court Building for legal assistance with business matters. Upon leaving, he opted to take the Rangam Convention Hall road due to fear after noticing the presence of the accused individuals and their supporters.

He claimed the accused, identifying him as a Shibir activist because of the prayer cap on his head, assaulted him and stole Tk 6,000.

On November 26, members of the Sanatani or Hindu community staged a protest near the Chattogram court premises after Chinmoy Krishna was denied bail and sent to jail on sedition charges. The demonstration, which lasted from 12:15 pm to 3:45 pm, escalated into unrest.

Protestors clashed with lawyers and staff as police used sound grenades to disperse them and transfer Chinmoy to prison. During the protest, several motorcycles and vehicles were damaged, and glass shards were scattered across the second floor of the Court Mosque Complex, which houses lawyers’ chambers.

The clashes culminated in the death of lawyer Saiful Islam Alif during skirmishes on Rangam Convention Hall road.
