Trump says he was informed in advance about Israel's strikes on Iran: Fox News

Former U.S. President Donald Trump told Fox News he had advance knowledge of Israel's airstrikes on Iran and reiterated that Tehran "must not acquire a nuclear weapon," the U.S. broadcaster reported.

His remarks came after Israel launched a major air offensive on Friday, targeting around 100 locations, including nuclear and military facilities in Iran. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the operation included a strike on the atomic site in Natanz. Iranian media reported the deaths of Revolutionary Guards commander Hossein Salami and Chief of Staff Mohammad Bagheri.

Speaking to Fox News, Trump confirmed he was informed about the Israeli operation beforehand.
"Iran cannot have a nuclear bomb, and we’re hoping to return to negotiations — we’ll see," he said.

According to Fox, Trump also stated that the U.S. is prepared to defend itself and Israel if Iran retaliates. The report added that his administration had notified at least one key Middle Eastern ally ahead of the strikes, while stressing that the U.S. was not directly involved.

Earlier on Thursday, Secretary of State Marco Rubio emphasized that the U.S. was not part of the operation and said Washington’s main focus remains the safety of American forces in the region.
"Let me be clear: Iran should not target U.S. interests or personnel," Rubio warned.

Trump is scheduled to attend a National Security Council meeting on Friday morning.
