The ICT Division is formulating a policy to guide the use of artificial intelligence in government offices, according to Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb.
Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, the Chief Adviser’s Special Assistant for Posts, Telecommunications and ICT, has said that Bangladesh is developing a policy to regulate the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in government offices.
He made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at the ‘Bangladesh Techconnect Summit 2025,’ held on Wednesday at a hotel in Dhaka. The event was jointly organised by the ICT Division and tech giant Huawei, according to UNB.
“Bangladesh began its digital transformation journey years ago, and in recent months, we have renewed our pace and direction,” Taiyeb said, adding that the government aims to empower citizens through enhanced digital services with support from its partners.
Taiyeb noted that the lack of integration among digital systems across government agencies and ministries has hindered progress, but the interim government is now prioritising system integration and establishing a central monitoring cell to ensure a smoother digital transition.
The summit brought together key stakeholders to advance Bangladesh’s shift toward an innovation-driven digital economy.
Held under the theme “Building a prosperous, innovative and inclusive Bangladesh through excellence in ICT,” the event served as a forum for policymakers, regulators, industry leaders, and innovators to discuss how emerging technologies—such as AI, 5G, cloud computing, IoT, and fintech—are reshaping governance, business, and everyday life.
The TechConnect initiative included several thematic sessions outlining the country’s strategic direction. Additional Secretary Md Mamunur Rashid Bhuiyan presented the ICT Division’s strategic roadmap, while Julian Gorman, Head of GSMA Asia Pacific, discussed efforts to bridge the region’s digital divide.
Md Abu Sayed, Executive Director of the Bangladesh Computer Council, delivered a presentation on enterprise digital transformation.
A key panel discussion, moderated by ICT Division Secretary Shish Haider Chowdhury, featured representatives from the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC), mobile operators, and Jason Wu, CEO of Huawei South Asia Region and Huawei Bangladesh. The panel explored strategies for strengthening digital infrastructure and accelerating technology adoption.
TechConnect 2025 builds on the partnership between the ICT Division and Huawei, which signed an MoU in March 2025 to expand collaboration in innovation, capacity building, and the broader ICT ecosystem.
Over the past decade, the ICT Division and Huawei have worked together to develop core digital infrastructure, including deploying Bangladesh’s first government cloud through the Huawei Cloud Stack platform. The division has also driven cybersecurity reforms and expanded access to more than 100 public services via platforms such as MyGov.
Huawei, which has been operating in Bangladesh for 27 years, reiterated its commitment to supporting the country’s ambition to build a fully connected, intelligent Bangladesh through continued collaboration with government agencies, telecom operators, and enterprises.
