Saudi Arabia, Pakistan Join Forces to Build International Cricket Stadium in Jeddah
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the Saudi Arabian Cricket Federation (SACF) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Wednesday to build an international cricket stadium in Saudi Arabia, marking a major step toward strengthening the Kingdom's cricket infrastructure.
The agreement was signed by Prince Saud bin Mishal bin Mohammad Al Saud, chairman of the SACF, and PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, who also serves as Pakistan's interior minister. Naqvi arrived in Riyadh on Wednesday for talks with Saudi leaders focused on security, counter-narcotics and institutional cooperation, according to Pakistani state media.
Under the agreement, the two sides will collaborate on infrastructure development, technical expertise, venue planning and operational standards to create a modern cricket stadium that meets international competition requirements, according to a joint statement.
"Today's partnership is not only about developing an international cricket stadium in Jeddah; it is about building a long-term future for cricket in Saudi Arabia through shared ambition, trusted partnerships and sustainable investment," Prince Saud said in the statement.
The proposed stadium is expected to strengthen Saudi Arabia's ability to host international cricket matches and major sporting events while supporting sports investment, tourism and community engagement in line with the Kingdom's Vision 2030 agenda.
The partnership also covers the development of integrated venue infrastructure, including playing surfaces, broadcast and media facilities, hospitality areas, training venues and spectator services, creating a world-class environment for players, officials, fans and commercial partners.
Beyond the stadium project, the MoU establishes a framework for broader cooperation between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia in cricket development. The two countries will work together on competitions, technical and development programs, and the exchange of expertise to support the long-term growth of the sport in the Kingdom and create opportunities for future generations.
"The Pakistan Cricket Board is honored to contribute to Saudi Arabia's exciting cricket journey," Naqvi said. "Together, we are creating a partnership that will strengthen the game, connect our cricketing communities and leave a lasting legacy."
Cricket has grown rapidly in popularity in Saudi Arabia since the establishment of the Saudi Arabian Cricket Federation in 2020. The federation has launched several initiatives to promote the sport domestically and prepare the national teams to compete at the highest level.
The game was first introduced to the Kingdom in the early 1960s by expatriates from Pakistan and India, leading to the formation of local cricket clubs. Saudi Arabia became an affiliate member of the International Cricket Council in 2003 and was elevated to associate member status in 2016.
