Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has urged everyone to stay vigilant against attempts to create confusion in the name of politics.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Saturday urged the country’s people to remain vigilant, warning that a group is trying to create confusion in the name of politics.

“A group is spreading confusion in the country in the name of politics. You should remain alert,” he said while addressing a Family Card distribution ceremony at Chandpur Government College ground on Saturday afternoon.

Tarique, who is also the BNP chairman, said the party believes in politics that improves people’s lives. “BNP’s politics means dredging canals, boosting agricultural production, establishing new mills and factories, creating jobs, ensuring healthcare and guaranteeing public safety,” he said.

Addressing the gathering, he warned against any attempt to create unrest. “If anyone tries to create confusion or anarchy in the name of politics, will you stay silent? We will not remain silent. We will resist with an iron hand,” he said.

The Prime Minister said every programme undertaken by BNP is aimed at improving the living standards of working-class people. “We removed the autocratic regime through a movement for this purpose. The people have now handed power to an elected government. Now it is our responsibility to change people’s lives,” he added.

Alongside Chandpur, PM Tarique inaugurated the Family Card distribution programme in 20 other districts through video conference under the Ministry of Social Welfare initiative. During the event, he distributed Family Cards among 10 women beneficiaries — Hasina Khatun, Sohagi Akhtar, Fatema Khatun, Amena Khatun, Moseda Begum, Monowara Begum, Mahmuda Khatun, Ruma Akhtar, Nazma Begum and Taslima.

Later, the premier pressed a button on a laptop, instantly transferring Tk2,500 in cash assistance to the accounts of 15,000 women beneficiaries in Chandpur and the other 20 districts.
