Voting is underway across Bangladesh in a festive and peaceful atmosphere during the ongoing election. The Election Commission (EC) reported that, on average, 32.88 percent of voters had cast their ballots nationwide by 12:00pm.

The update was provided around noon on Thursday (February 12) by EC Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed from the Election Commission Bhaban in Agargaon, Dhaka.

He said the turnout figure was calculated based on reports received from 32,789 of the country’s 42,651 polling centres. According to the compiled data, 32.88 percent of votes had been cast by midday, with rural areas recording slightly higher participation than urban centres.

Expressing satisfaction with the overall environment, the secretary said no situation had arisen anywhere in the country that required suspension of voting, and no polling station had been forced to close. Although minor disturbances were reported at a few centres, swift action by law enforcement prevented any major incidents.

He also assured that there is no significant threat of sabotage, and voters are safely exercising their democratic right.
