Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam on Tuesday said the police would uphold professionalism, neutrality and a strong sense of responsibility during the upcoming national parliamentary election.

He made the remarks while addressing Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) probationers at the Hall of Integrity at the Police Headquarters in the morning. The event was attended by probationers from the 27th BCS (police) batch—initially selected in 2008 and appointed recently—along with officers from the 28th and 43rd batches.

The IGP said initiatives are underway to boost morale within the force and restore public trust in the police.

Congratulating the newly appointed officers, he said their joining represented not only a personal achievement but also the restoration of their rightful place in the service.

Highlighting emerging challenges, he noted that cybercrime is on the rise and public opinion is increasingly being shaped through social media. “In this context, policing can no longer rely solely on physical presence or traditional methods,” he said.

He emphasised the importance of intelligence-led policing, global awareness and technological competence, adding that integrity and professionalism must also be maintained in the digital sphere.

Urging the probationers to prepare themselves as future leaders of the Bangladesh Police, the IGP called on them to undergo training at the Bangladesh Police Academy with strict discipline, punctuality and adherence to rules.

Of the probationers, 60 are from the 27th batch, one from the 28th batch and six from the 43rd batch. Officers of the 27th BCS (police) batch received their appointments after a prolonged legal process, having previously been deprived of recruitment.

Senior officials of the Police Headquarters were also present at the programme.
