Kosovo President Meets Chief Adviser, Calls For Stronger Ties With Bangladesh

President of Kosovo Vjosa Osmani met with Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on Wednesday on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
The meeting, held at a city hotel, focused on issues of mutual interest, including migration, trade, commerce, and people-to-people exchanges.
President Osmani thanked Bangladesh for its early and continued support to Kosovo, recalling that Bangladesh was among the first countries to recognize the Southeast European nation.
She highlighted Kosovo’s recent economic achievements, noting that it has recorded the highest GDP growth in the region for two consecutive years. She also pointed out that Kosovo has rebuilt its economy after a genocidal war and now ranks among the safest countries in Europe in terms of security and rule of law.
Osmani further mentioned that a growing number of Bangladeshi nationals are working in Kosovo, making valuable contributions to its economy. To enhance bilateral cooperation, she proposed signing several trade and economic agreements with Bangladesh, particularly in the textile sector, which she identified as a promising area for collaboration.
Chief Adviser Prof Yunus invited President Osmani to visit Bangladesh and encouraged the dispatch of a Kosovan trade delegation to Dhaka to explore opportunities. He also expressed support for regular youth exchange programs to deepen ties between the two nations.
Law Adviser Dr. Asif Nazrul, who also attended the meeting, stressed the need to sign a formal Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on recruiting Bangladeshi workers, which he said would ensure safe migration and benefit both countries. “Bangladeshi workers in Kosovo have spoken highly of the country’s hospitality and warmth,” he added.
Senior Secretary and SDG Coordinator Lamiya Morshed was also present at the meeting.
