Islamic scholars have always played a vital role during the nation’s defining moments, said Asif Mahmud.

Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, and Youth and Sports Adviser Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan today said Islamic scholars play an essential role during the nation's pivotal moments.

“The contribution of Islamic scholars in upholding people’s rights and supporting democratic movements is beyond question,” he said.

He made the remarks while speaking as chief guest at the ‘International Kerat Conference’ organised by Jameya Islamia Darul Huq Madrasa at Hazaribagh Park in Dhaka.

He said the country cannot advance by sidelining Islamic scholars or excluding them from future initiatives. “We want to move forward together with Islamic scholars in all upcoming efforts, including social and moral leadership and religious service,” he added.

Asif Mahmud also highlighted the need to hold kerat conferences nationwide to foster morality, unity, and a religious environment, inspiring young people to engage with the Quran.

He later distributed turbans among hafez students.

The event was chaired by noted scholar Maulana Tavir Ahmed Siddiqui and attended by prominent Islamic scholars including Qari Ahmed Bin Yusuf Ajhari, Qari Mahdi Golam Nezad from Iran, Qari Sheikh Ahmed Al Zahri from Egypt, Qari Nazir Asgar from the Philippines, and Qari Anwarul Hasan Shah Bukhari from Pakistan.
