Another team of Chinese medical specialists has joined the effort to provide treatment for Khaleda Zia

A new team of specialist physicians from China has arrived in Dhaka to assist in the treatment of BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, who is currently receiving care at Evercare Hospital in the capital.

According to BNP media cell member Sayrul Kabir Khan, the four-member delegation reached Evercare Hospital at 10:10 pm on Wednesday. The team includes Chi Jianfang, Yun Xin, Zhang Yuhui and Meng Hong O, reports UNB.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir welcomed the doctors at the hospital, while former secretary Abdul Khalek received them upon their arrival at the airport.

This follows the arrival of another five-member team from the China Medical Team on Monday, who also met with the medical board supervising Khaleda Zia’s treatment.

Hospital sources said the newly arrived specialists reviewed her current condition and discussed necessary medical steps with local doctors.

In addition, a UK-based specialist, Dr Richard Beale, reached Dhaka on Wednesday (December 03) and joined the ongoing treatment efforts at Evercare Hospital after arriving at around 10:30 am.

Khaleda Zia has been receiving intensive care since her admission to Evercare Hospital on November 23, and remains in the Coronary Care Unit (CCU) with multiple complications involving her liver, kidneys, and heart.

Her treatment is being overseen by a medical board led by Professor Shahabuddin Talukder and comprising several senior physicians. The board is now being supported by specialist doctors from both the UK and China.

Her personal physician, Professor AZM Zahid Hossain, said the board is also receiving constant guidance from experts at Johns Hopkins University in the US and the London Clinic in the UK. The US-based specialists include Professor Habibur Rahman, Professor Rafiquddin Ahmed and Professor John Hamilton, while the UK team features Professor Dr Hamid Rob, Professor John Patrick, Professor Jennifer Cross and Dr Zubaida Rahman.

He added that from London, the party’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman is coordinating communication with the medical teams round the clock.
