Home Adviser Affirms Robust Security Measures for Pahela Baishakh Celebrations

Home Adviser Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has confirmed that comprehensive security arrangements are in place for the upcoming Pahela Baishakh festivities. Speaking at a joint press briefing with Cultural Affairs Adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki, he stated that all essential steps are being taken to ensure public safety during the celebration of the Bangla New Year on April 14. He noted that Pahela Baishakh will be observed joyfully throughout the country, including in Dhaka.

Jahangir Alam emphasised that security protocols will be determined based on threat assessments, with local authorities deciding the duration of the events in their respective jurisdictions. He assured that adequate preventive measures would be enforced to avoid any disruptions and maintain public order during the celebrations. Specific arrangements are being made to ensure smooth proceedings during the morning procession and cultural programmes at key locations such as Ramna Batamul, Hatirjheel, and Rabindra Sarobar. Security personnel will also be deployed to events taking place outside the capital.

Cultural Affairs Adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki announced that a detailed list of programmes for both Chaitra Sankranti and Pahela Baishakh will be shared in a press conference scheduled for tomorrow. These events are observed widely by Bengalis and various ethnic communities across the nation. Farooki further mentioned that Dhaka University is in consultation with stakeholders regarding the final naming of the Mangal Shobhajatra, the traditional parade which has become an integral part of Pahela Baishakh celebrations.
