Government to Establish Land-Based LNG Terminal Shortly: Alam

The interim government has decided to establish a land-based LNG terminal to ensure a steady and uninterrupted gas supply to factories across the country. Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam, speaking to reporters in Doha, stated that many industrialists are facing difficulties in setting up factories due to a shortage of gas, prompting the government to expedite the terminal's development to facilitate adequate gas imports. During Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus's official visit to Doha, a proposal in this regard was shared with Qatar Energy.
Alam confirmed that the terminal will be constructed soon, aiming to boost industrial gas supply in Bangladesh. He termed the visit as highly successful and engaging, expressing confidence that it would enhance Bangladesh’s international reputation and attract more foreign investments. Highlighting the improving economic scenario, he noted that the interim government has significantly reduced the country’s outstanding debt from US$ 3.2 billion to US$ 600 million, with plans to repay the remainder within a few months. This, he said, sends a positive message to the global business community about Bangladesh’s readiness for investment. Professor Yunus is scheduled to leave Doha today for Rome to attend the funeral of Pope Francis.
