CEC Asserts EC Will Implement Reforms Within Its Mandate

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin stated that the Election Commission (EC) will independently implement essential reforms that fall within its jurisdiction and can be completed ahead of the 13th parliamentary elections. Reforms involving political matters, he clarified, will be handled by the National Consensus Commission. Speaking after a meeting with newly appointed Australian High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Susan Ryle, at Nirbachan Bhaban in Agargaon, the CEC shared that discussions covered the EC’s election preparations and upcoming reform plans.

The Australian envoy inquired about the EC’s readiness and reform agenda, and expressed willingness to extend necessary support. The CEC informed her about progress in updating the voter list, procurement processes, legal reforms, and political party registration. He emphasized that while the EC will execute immediate and feasible reforms within its scope, political reforms lie beyond its authority.
