Religious affairs adviser: Committee likely to be formed to resolve Tabligh Jamaat dispute

The government plans to form a committee comprising senior leaders from the two rival factions of Tabligh Jamaat to help permanently resolve their disputes, Religious Affairs Adviser AFM Khalid Hossain told reporters at the Secretariat on Wednesday.

He made the remarks following a meeting with representatives of both groups, which he described as taking place in a “friendly atmosphere.”

Despite clear differences in views and positions, efforts are underway to de-escalate tensions and bring them to a manageable level, the adviser said.

The proposed dispute resolution committee will be headed by an additional secretary, he added.

Expressing hope for a peaceful resolution, Khalid Hossain said supporters of the two rival Islamic scholars—Maulana Saad and Maulana Jubayer—are expected to refrain from future confrontations.

The meeting was also attended by Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury and the Chief Adviser’s Special Assistant for the Home Ministry, Khuda Baksh Chowdhury, among others.
