Bangladesh and Sri Lanka Strengthen Bilateral Ties and Regional Economic Cooperation
Bangladesh and Sri Lanka have reaffirmed their dedication to enhancing bilateral relations and promoting regional economic collaboration for shared prosperity.
This commitment was emphasized during a meeting between Sri Lanka’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Arun Hemachandra, and Bangladesh’s Foreign Adviser, Md Touhid Hossain, on the sidelines of the 20th BIMSTEC Ministerial Meeting on Thursday afternoon.
According to a press release from the foreign ministry, the discussions focused on key bilateral matters of mutual interest. Both dignitaries highlighted the need to deepen economic cooperation between their nations.
Earlier, BIMSTEC Secretary General Indra Mani Pandey met with Foreign Adviser Touhid. During their conversation, Touhid praised the BIMSTEC Secretariat’s role in advancing regional cooperation and reaffirmed Bangladesh’s strong commitment to the BIMSTEC process as the forum’s incoming chair.
Indra Mani sought Bangladesh’s support in commemorating the 30th anniversary of BIMSTEC. In response, Touhid welcomed the initiative and encouraged the Secretariat to develop a comprehensive plan for the celebrations.
Both parties reiterated their commitment to working closely to ensure the success of Bangladesh’s upcoming chairmanship and to marking BIMSTEC’s three decades of regional collaboration in a meaningful manner.
Touhid led the Bangladesh delegation at the 20th BIMSTEC Ministerial Meeting on Thursday, ahead of the sixth BIMSTEC Summit scheduled to take place in Bangkok on Friday.
