BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that China wishes to see Bangladesh emerge as a stable and democratic nation, as ties between the two countries continue to deepen.

Earlier on Saturday around 6:30 pm, a BNP delegation led by Fakhrul held a meeting with a visiting delegation from the Communist Party of China (CPC) in Dhaka.

The CPC team was led by Peng Xiubin, director general of the Southeast and South Asian Affairs Bureau under the International Department of the CPC Central Committee. Other members included deputy director Chen Xuanbo, third secretary Chen Yongpei, and attaché Zhang Guyu.

Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen also attended the meeting, joined by Zhang Jing, director of the political section at the embassy, and attaché Liu Hongru.

Following the discussions, Ambassador Yao Wen told reporters that the two sides had a fruitful exchange, focusing on strengthening party-to-party cooperation over the next 50 years. He noted that BNP leaders briefed the Chinese side on their perspectives regarding the upcoming national elections but emphasized that China would not interfere in Bangladesh’s internal affairs.

“It is entirely your business and will be decided by the people of Bangladesh,” Wen said, adding that China seeks engagement with all major political parties in the country, not just the BNP.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Mirza Fakhrul said the discussions reflected the historic relationship between the two parties. BNP briefed the Chinese delegation on the political situation and the approaching elections.

"As you know, China does not interfere in the internal affairs of other countries. They want to see a strong, prosperous Bangladesh in a democratic environment," Fakhrul said.

He added that while BNP and the CPC previously engaged almost every year, such interactions had been suspended for 15 years under what he described as a "fascist government."

"Now, we have revived this relationship. Our ties with the Chinese Communist Party are strengthening and will continue to deepen," Fakhrul said.

Alongside Mirza Fakhrul, the BNP delegation included Standing Committee member Nazrul Islam Khan, Chairperson’s Advisory Council member Ismail Zabiullah, Legal Affairs Secretary Kaiser Kamal, Foreign Affairs Advisory Committee member Humayun Kabir, Media Cell member Mahmuda Habiba, and Chairperson’s Private Secretary ABM Abdus Sattar.
