CA Orders E-Learning in 100 CHT Schools by Year-End, Proposes Solar, Starlink Solutions

Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has instructed authorities to roll out e-learning in at least 100 schools across the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) within this year, resolving all existing barriers without delay.

He issued the directive during a meeting held on Wednesday at the State Guest House Jamuna in Dhaka.

The meeting was attended by Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Adviser Supradip Chakma, Liberation War and Disaster Affairs Adviser Faruk-e-Azam, Food and Land Adviser Ali Imam Majumder, Principal Secretary to the Chief Adviser M Siraz Uddin Miah, and other relevant officials.

Officials outlined three major challenges to implementing virtual education in the CHT: unreliable electricity in remote areas, lack of internet connectivity, and a shortage of qualified teachers to conduct online instruction.

To address these obstacles, the Chief Adviser recommended the use of solar panels to mitigate power shortages and the deployment of mobile networks and Starlink services to ensure internet access.

To tackle the dearth of qualified educators, he proposed preparing a list of target schools and appointing teachers on a contractual basis for a specific period.

“To ensure quality education in underserved areas of the CHT, we must first identify 100 schools and begin setting up internet-based learning facilities,” said Prof Yunus. “Each school's needs—whether internet, devices, or infrastructure—must be assessed immediately so classes can begin within this year.”

He further suggested that experienced teachers from major urban institutions could deliver online classes in mathematics, science, and English, enabling CHT students to access the same quality of education.

“Once they receive quality instruction and opportunities, the children of this region will no longer lag behind. Many bright minds will emerge from there,” he said.

During the meeting, the CHT Affairs Adviser also briefed the Chief Adviser on efforts to improve living standards and protect the environment in the region. The Chief Adviser instructed that plans be drawn up in coordination with relevant ministries to advance these goals.
