Bus fares have been raised following the increase in fuel prices
Under the new decision, bus fares per kilometre have been increased by 11 paisa in both Dhaka and Chattogram.
The government has announced a revised public transport fare structure in response to the recent fuel price hike, increasing bus fares nationwide.
The decision was taken at a meeting with transport owners and workers on Thursday (23 April), Road Transport Minister Shaikh Rabiul Alam said.
He noted that bus fares per kilometre have been raised by 11 paisa in both Dhaka and Chattogram, with the same increase applying to inter-district services.
In the two major cities, fares for buses and minibuses have risen from Tk2.42 per kilometre to Tk2.53, while long-distance fares have gone up from Tk2.12 to Tk2.23 per kilometre.
Earlier in the day, a बैठक was held at the ministry’s conference room at the Secretariat to review the proposed adjustment. It was chaired by the minister and attended by transport owners, officials of the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA), and other stakeholders.
Officials said transport owners had initially sought a 22 paisa per kilometre increase, but the final rate was set lower following discussions.
