Bangladesh and Qatar have signed an agreement under which Qatar will recruit 800 personnel from the Bangladeshi armed forces.

Qatar on Sunday signed an agreement with Bangladesh to take 800 members of the Bangladesh Armed Forces on deputation, the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said.

The deal was concluded in Doha.

According to the ISPR, the 800 personnel will initially serve for three years, with the option to extend their deployment for another three years based on performance. The number of personnel may also be increased in the future.

Lieutenant General SM Kamrul Hassan, Principal Staff Officer of the Armed Forces Division, signed the agreement on behalf of Bangladesh. Lieutenant General (Pilot) Jassim bin Mohammed Al-Mannai, Chief of Staff of the Qatar Armed Forces, signed for Qatar.

The agreement creates a new avenue for deploying Bangladeshi armed forces personnel to Qatar, boosting foreign currency earnings and strengthening bilateral ties.

During the visit, PSO Kamrul Hassan also held discussions with senior officials from the Qatari armed forces, defence industries and other relevant sectors on issues of mutual interest.

The accord follows the 21–25 April visit to Qatar by Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus, which laid the groundwork for this development.
