Army Chief says Bangladesh stands as a nation of communal harmony.

Chief of Army Staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman today affirmed that Bangladesh is a nation of communal harmony where every citizen enjoys equal rights.

“This is the Bangladesh of unity, where Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists, Christians, hill communities, and Bengalis have lived together in peace for centuries. On this sacred day, our vow must be to preserve this harmony and brotherhood forever. This land belongs to all of us—there is no division by religion, caste, or creed. We are all equal citizens of this country, and together we look forward to a golden future,” he said.

The Army Chief made these remarks while addressing devotees as the chief guest at the inauguration of the central Janmashtami rally at Dhakeshwari Temple in the capital’s Palashi intersection. The event was jointly organized by Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad, Mahanagar Sarbojanin Puja Committee, and Dhakeshwari Temple.

Extending his greetings on the occasion, General Waker expressed gratitude to the organizers for inviting him to the celebration.

“This joyous festival began with songs and dance, and I am deeply thankful that you have included us in your happiness. Thousands of devotees have gathered here today, and it is a privilege for us to share in your joy,” he said.

The Army Chief stressed that the armed forces—including the navy and air force—remain dedicated to safeguarding this spirit of unity.

“Across Bangladesh, the armed forces are always with you. As you celebrate your religious festivals with joy, we too will share in that joy with you,” he assured.

Calling on devotees to spread the teachings of Lord Krishna, General Waker added, “Let his wisdom radiate from here to everywhere. It will inspire us to live together in peace and harmony.”

He recalled that the Janmashtami procession had once been a major annual tradition in the 19th and 20th centuries before it was discontinued, and warmly welcomed its recent revival.

“I sincerely hope, and In Sha Allah believe, that this rally and celebration will continue every year. Whatever support you seek from us, we will extend it,” he pledged.

On the occasion, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral M Nazmul Hassan urged for nurturing mutual tolerance and unity to build a stronger nation guided by Lord Krishna’s teachings.

Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Hasan Mahmood Khan echoed similar sentiments, noting that Lord Krishna’s teachings not only inspire courage against falsehood and injustice but also guide humanity toward righteousness.

Following the speeches, a vibrant procession took to the streets, passing through key city landmarks including Palashi intersection, Jagannath Hall, Central Shaheed Minar, Doel Chattar, High Court area, Bangabazar, Nagar Bhaban, Golap Shah Mazar, Gulistan Intersection, Nawabpur Road, and Roy Saheb Bazar Intersection before concluding at Bahadur Shah Park.
