BNP Standing Committee Member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury on Saturday stressed that unity is essential in building a new Bangladesh, saying there must be no divisions in society.

Speaking as the chief guest at the religious conference and Sadhu Santa Rishi Vaishnav Maha Sammelan, he said, “To establish a new Bangladesh, we must refrain from creating social divides. BNP does not believe in divisive politics; it envisions a happy and prosperous nation built on the participation of people from all religions and communities.”

The conference was held at JM Sen Hall on the opening day of a four-day program marking the Janmashtami festival.

Highlighting the essence of democracy, Khasru said people have the right to practice different religions and support different political parties, which is a strength—not a conflict—within the constitutional framework. He underscored that tolerance of differing views is vital for building a modern, prosperous Bangladesh.

“Mutual respect and acceptance of differences are the hallmarks of democracy,” he noted, adding that the teachings of Lord Krishna played a historic role in protecting humanity from injustice and wrongdoing.

He further argued that no one should be singled out as a “non-communal leader” since the Constitution itself guarantees equal rights for all citizens regardless of religion, caste, or creed. “If one abides by the Constitution, he or she is already non-communal. We must uphold the principles of a pluralistic democratic society to ensure peace and harmony. I do not believe in the concept of minorities—we are all equal, and the government must safeguard the rights of every citizen.”

Khasru warned that those who fuel communal politics have always been defeated and will continue to face rejection. “The people of Bangladesh stand united against communalism and remain committed to building a better future for the nation’s greater welfare,” he said.

The event, presided over by Lion RK Das Rupu, General Secretary of the Shri Shri Janmashtami Celebration Committee of Bangladesh, featured addresses by Swami Sachidananda Puri Maharaj, who lit the Mangalpradip, Central Committee Executive Secretary Biplob Kumar Parth, former Chattogram City BNP General Secretary Abul Hashem Bakkar, Rabiswarananda Puri Maharaj of Pachuria Tapoban Ashram, and Umeshananda Giri Maharaj of Bholananda Giri Mandir, among others.
