"July Fighters to Receive Allowances from Next Month: Adviser Faruk-e-Azam"

The “July Fighters” who took part in the student-led mass uprising will start receiving allowances from next month, Liberation War Affairs Adviser Faruk-e-Azam has announced.

“In addition to monthly allowances, the wounded participants of the July uprising will receive lifelong free medical treatment in government hospitals,” Faruk-e-Azam said in an exclusive interview with Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) at the Secretariat on Monday.

He noted that while it took 54 years to finalize the list of genuine freedom fighters of the 1971 Liberation War, the interim government managed to prepare the final list of martyred and wounded participants of the July uprising in just seven to eight months—a testament to its commitment and responsibility.

The adviser also said that rehabilitation programs are being implemented to help injured fighters find employment or start businesses based on their qualifications.

A separate department dedicated to the rehabilitation of July Fighters has already been established under the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs, with 20 officers working under an additional secretary. “The department is operating round-the-clock to address the welfare of the July Fighters,” he said.

Faruk-e-Azam emphasized that the July Fighters are an integral part of Bangladesh’s democratic history and will always be honored by the nation. “I firmly believe both the government and the people will ensure they receive due recognition and benefits, honoring their sacrifices,” he added.

He acknowledged that in some cases, authorities have not yet been able to reach certain families of the martyrs. “If anyone comes forward claiming that a family member went missing during the July uprising, the government will seriously consider their application and even conduct DNA tests if needed to locate mass graves,” he assured.

The adviser explained that officially recognized July Fighters will
