A man was killed in a motorcycle crash during a campaign showdown involving a Jamaat-e-Islami candidate in Rangpur.
A man was killed after losing control of his motorcycle during an election showdown held in support of a Jamaat-e-Islami candidate in Gangachara upazila of Rangpur on Friday night.
The victim, 58-year-old Nur Alam of Hajihaat in Rangpur city’s Ward-1, was a Jamaat supporter and the son of the late Monsur Ali.
Locals said Nur Alam had joined a motorcycle procession backing Jamaat-endorsed candidate Raihan Siraji for the Rangpur-1 constituency in the upcoming 13th national election.
Around 9 pm, as the procession reached Soyrabarhi in Alambiditor Union, he lost control of his bike at a turn and crashed into a roadside pillar, sustaining a critical head injury.
He was taken to Rangpur Medical College Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.
Inspector (Investigation) Abu Hanif Sarker of Gangachara Model Police Station confirmed the incident, saying Nur Alam died after crashing his motorcycle during the political showdown.
