The interim government has initiated an urgent investigation into the death of Touhidul Islam, Chief Adviser’s Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder announced on Saturday.

According to reports, police took Touhidul to a hospital in Cumilla late Friday night with injuries allegedly inflicted by security forces. He had been arrested from his home early Friday morning following complaints.

In a statement issued on behalf of the CA’s press wing, Azad emphasized that the interim government, led by Prof. Muhammad Yunus, strongly condemns any form of custodial torture and murder.

He reiterated the government’s commitment to upholding human rights in all aspects of national life, noting that its leadership includes some of the country’s most prominent rights activists.

As part of its efforts to reform the criminal justice system, the government has established multiple commissions, most of which have already submitted their reports.

“The interim government will engage in meaningful dialogue with political parties to address these reports, aiming to eliminate all possibilities of human rights violations in police interrogations, crime management, and judicial procedures,” Azad stated.

He reaffirmed the government’s dedication to implementing these reforms.
