The most prestigious football event in the country, the 10-team Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Football, kicks off on Friday, November 29, with three exciting matches scheduled at different venues in the capital and surrounding areas.

On the opening day, treble-winners of last season, Bashundhara Kings, will face Chittagong Abahani Limited at 5:30 pm at their home ground, Bashundhara Kings Arena in Dhaka. In the other two fixtures, Dhaka Mohammedan SC, the Federation and Challenge Cup runners-up, will play against Dhaka Wanderers Club at 2:30 pm at Shaheed Barkat Stadium in Gazipur, while Brothers Union Club will meet Bangladesh Police FC at the same time at Bir Shreshtha Matiur Rahman Stadium in Munshiganj.

Recently, Mohammedan SC informed the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) that they would not play any matches at Bashundhara Kings Arena due to security concerns.

On Saturday, two more matches will take place. Former champions Dhaka Abahani Limited will take on Youngmen’s Club Fakirerpool at 2:30 pm at Shaheed Barkat Stadium, while Rahmatganj MFS will face Fortis FC Ltd. at 2:30 pm at Bir Shreshtha Matiur Rahman Stadium.

The nine-round league will be held every Friday and Saturday, with the final match scheduled for June 25 next year.

The season began last Friday (Nov 22) with the inaugural Bangladesh 2.0 Challenge Cup Football Tournament 2024-25, where Bashundhara Kings triumphed 3-1 over Dhaka Mohammedan SC to claim the title. This new tournament replaced the previous Independence Cup and Federation Cup Football, serving as the season's curtain-raiser and dedicated to the July-August student uprising.

The traditional 10-team Federation Cup Football Tournament 2024-25 will begin on December 3, played every Tuesday. The teams have been divided into two groups: Group A features Bashundhara Kings, Bangladesh Police FC, Fortis FC, Brothers Union Club, and Dhaka Wanderers Club, while Group B includes Mohammedan SC, Dhaka Abahani Ltd, Chittagong Abahani Ltd, Rahmatganj MFS, and Fakirerpool Youngmen's Club. On the opening day of the Federation Cup, Bashundhara Kings will play Brothers Union Club, and Bangladesh Police FC will face Fortis FC.

The Federation Cup's first phase will see the 10 teams competing in a single-league format across three venues in Dhaka, Mymensingh, and Cumilla. The top two teams from each group will advance to the next round, which will follow a knockout format similar to a franchise cricket league.
