Mahmudullah's three unforgettable T20I innings

Veteran Bangladesh all-rounder Mahmudullah is set to play his 141st and final T20I on Saturday evening against India in the third and concluding match of the series in Hyderabad. As Bangladesh's most-capped T20I player, the 38-year-old is the last of the Tigers' "big five" to retire from international T20 cricket. Here are three of his most memorable innings from his 17-year T20I career:
43* off 18 against Sri Lanka, 2018 Nidahas Trophy
This match-winning knock stands as one of Mahmudullah's finest T20I moments and was ranked among the best international 20-over innings of the year. Smashing three fours and two sixes, he led Bangladesh to the final with a six off the second-last ball in a tense and heated game. After the match, he reflected, "One of my best innings. I planned to hit the ball as hard as I could, and I was under pressure."
18 off 22 against India, 2016 T20 World Cup
This innings became a pivotal “life-changing moment” for Mahmudullah, who later described it as a valuable lesson. Bangladesh was on the brink of a historic win over India but fell short, needing just two runs from three balls. Mushfiqur Rahim was caught at deep midwicket, followed by Mahmudullah's dismissal in the same area off a full toss, leading to a heartbreaking one-run defeat.
52 off 53 against Australia, 2021 home series
Among his eight T20I half-centuries, this knock against Australia in Mirpur was crucial in securing a series win. On a difficult pitch, Mahmudullah anchored the innings with four boundaries while wickets fell at the other end. His dismissal in the final over helped Bangladesh set a competitive total, leading to a 10-run victory and an unassailable 3-0 lead in the five-match series.
