Dhaka airport: Kuwait Airways plane door damaged after boarding bridge collapses
A Kuwait Airways flight bound for Kuwait was grounded early today, Wednesday, after a sudden malfunction caused a boarding bridge to collapse, damaging the aircraft door at Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
The passengers have been relocated to a local hotel while an investigation is underway.
Group Captain Quamrul Islam, executive director of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, stated that Kuwait Airways flight KU-283 had arrived at the airport around 1:30 AM local time when an unexpected technical issue caused boarding bridge-6 to descend, striking and damaging the plane’s door. “At the time of the incident, only the pilot and cabin crew were on board,” he confirmed, noting that no passengers were on the plane when the accident occurred.
A probe, led by a Civil Aviation Authority official, is investigating the malfunction.
Initially, 284 passengers were scheduled to depart for Kuwait at 2:45 AM. While some passengers opted for alternative arrangements, others were given hotel accommodations and will be rebooked on a later flight.
