On Wednesday, the two brothers of Shaheed Abu Sayed met with Chief Adviser Prof. Muhammad Yunus at the State Guest House Jamuna in Dhaka.
They conveyed "Salam" and warm wishes from their parents, expressing how deeply they were moved when Prof. Yunus spoke about Abu Sayed's sacrifice, along with that of other martyrs, in his historic speech at the United Nations General Assembly in New York last September.
Ramzan Ali, the elder brother of Abu Sayed, shared their gratitude, saying, “We were deeply honored that you highlighted Sayed’s heroic role in the revolution and also visited us in our village in Rangpur the day after you became Chief Adviser.”
The brothers had the opportunity to share the podium with Prof. Yunus when the Presidential Guard Regiment (PGR) honored him with the Guard Salute.
“I can't describe how we felt standing on the podium with the Chief Adviser as the troops saluted us,” said Abu Hossain, the other brother of the martyr.
During their meeting, the brothers briefed Prof. Yunus about the ongoing investigation into Abu Sayed’s murder and demanded justice, urging that those responsible face exemplary punishment.
They also announced plans to establish a foundation in Abu Sayed's memory. The foundation will focus on helping the poor and supporting the victims of the July-August mass uprising. Additionally, they plan to build a "model mosque" and a medical college in their village in honor of their slain brother and have requested assistance from two ministries.
Prof. Yunus pledged his full support to the family, assuring them that the Interim Government had instructed the police to expedite the investigation into the murder and ensure justice is served.
He stated, "Bangladesh will never forget Shaheed Abu Sayed and his contribution to the nation. His sacrifice played a crucial role in the mass uprising against the dictatorship."
Prof. Yunus reassured the family, saying, "I will always stand by you," and asked the brothers to convey his "Salam" to their parents.
Earlier, Prof. Yunus had visited Abu Sayed’s parents in Babonpur village, Rangpur, on August 9, just one day after he assumed the position of Chief Adviser of the Interim Government.
