Dhaka Education Board chairman resigns following student protests over HSC results
Prof. Tapan Kumar Sarker, chairman of the Dhaka Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, announced his resignation amid ongoing protests by students who failed their HSC exams and are demanding a reevaluation. The protests arose due to the subject mapping method used in evaluating the 2024 HSC results, based on SSC scores.
Tapan confirmed that he would submit his resignation to the Ministry of Education and forward the students' demands. The protests began on Sunday, with students entering the board's premises and clashing with officials, resulting in injuries to some protesters. The unrest included accusations of office vandalism and disruptions for those seeking services like certificates and mark sheets.
Following the turmoil, Prof. Tapan addressed the students and informed them of his decision to step down. Despite his announcement, students continued their demonstrations into the evening, alleging discrimination in the evaluation process.
