"Baseless Allegations": ISKCON Kolkata Responds to Bangladesh Leaders' 'Fundamentalist' Remark
The spokesperson for ISKCON Kolkata emphasized the organization’s relief efforts during the Bangladesh floods, underscoring its commitment to peace, unity, and providing assistance to those in need across the globe.
ISKCON Kolkata Vice-President Radharamn Das on Sunday refuted claims made by Bangladeshi political leaders labeling ISKCON as ‘fundamentalist.’ Das dismissed these remarks as “a pack of lies” and described them as “alarming.” The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) has come under fire amid protests by minorities in Bangladesh, which began following the ousting of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
“The comments by certain BNP leaders and extremist elements against ISKCON are completely baseless and alarming. We hope better sense prevails so that ISKCON can continue serving humanity in Bangladesh as it has in the past,” Das said, as quoted by PTI.
Highlighting ISKCON’s extensive relief efforts during the Bangladesh floods, Das reiterated the organization’s commitment to peace, unity, and aiding those in need globally. He also stated that remarks from student leaders, BNP politicians, and extremist groups would not deter ISKCON’s mission in Bangladesh.
Das pointed out that ISKCON properties in Bangladesh have been targeted, with bombings and arson attacks occurring in recent months, particularly after the arrest of Hindu leader Chinmoy Krishna Das.
“We hope for an end to these hostilities and anticipate the release of Chinmoy Krishna Das. It is crucial for the Md Yunus government to ensure the safety and security of minorities,” he emphasized.
Bangladeshi political leaders and Islamic organizations have accused ISKCON following Chinmoy Krishna Das’s arrest. The accusations arose after a deadly clash at the Chittagong court, where a lawyer lost his life during a confrontation between supporters of the Hindu leader and those demanding his arrest.
