Between May 8 and May 14, a total of 200 individuals were arrested across Bangladesh during joint operations led by the Bangladesh Army in coordination with other law enforcement agencies, according to a statement issued by the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) today. These operations, conducted in Dhaka and various other parts of the country, aimed to uphold law and order.

Those arrested include murder suspects, illegal arms holders, known criminals, smugglers, juvenile gang members, unauthorized sand miners, tree cutters, drug dealers and addicts, and brokers engaged in illicit activities, the ISPR said. Authorities recovered ten illegal firearms, 87 rounds of ammunition, 11 bombs, narcotics, locally-made weapons, stolen mobile phones and passports, smuggled sugar and spices, unauthorised medicines, and cash during the raids. All recovered items and the detainees were handed over to local police stations for interrogation and legal action.

The statement noted that the army has been conducting regular patrols across the country to ensure public safety. In industrial areas, its presence has been instrumental in quelling worker unrest. The army also maintained heightened security and round-the-clock monitoring during the celebration of Buddha Purnima, an important religious festival for the Buddhist community.

The Bangladesh Army will continue such operations to preserve national law and order, the statement concluded, urging citizens to report any suspicious activity to the nearest army camp.
