Newlywed woman beaten to death by in-laws over dowry dispute.

An 18-year-old newlywed woman from Feni, Marjan Akhter Jhumur, passed away at Chattogram Medical College Hospital on Saturday after allegedly being tortured by her in-laws over dowry.
Jhumur married expatriate Saidur Rahman on December 8 last year. According to her family, soon after she moved into her husband's house on February 27, her in-laws began pressuring her to provide Tk 0.30 million and five tolas of gold, as reported by UNB.
On March 4, a dispute over the dowry demands escalated, and Jhumur was allegedly beaten by her husband, father-in-law Sahab Uddin, and mother-in-law Bibi Hajera. Severely injured, she was initially taken to Feni General Hospital before being transferred to Chattogram Medical College Hospital for further treatment.
Her mother, Farida Akhter, stated that when they visited Jhumur in the hospital, she described the abuse she had endured. On March 12, her father, Abdul Halim, filed a case against her husband and in-laws at Feni Model Police Station.
Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Shamsuzzaman confirmed the arrest of her father-in-law, Sahab Uddin, while efforts are underway to apprehend the other accused.
Jhumur’s mother has demanded justice for her daughter’s tragic death.
