Law On Online Tenders Will Be Published Next Week: Planning Adviser
The initiative will help curb corruption in project implementation.
Planning Adviser Wahiduddin Mahmud on Wednesday said the law on the online tender process for government projects will be published in a gazette notification next week, describing the step as a “revolutionary milestone” in curbing corruption in project implementation.
He told reporters after an ECNEC meeting at the National Economic Council (NEC) office in Agargaon that allowing private and foreign entities to participate in online bidding would put an end to the practice of securing contracts through political influence and bribes.
Contracts will now be awarded solely on the basis of operational efficiency, while individuals with records of irregularities or loan defaults will be disqualified at the outset of the process, Wahiduddin said.
He added that the law would dismantle the monopoly of “a few mafias” in sectors such as railways and fuel.
The adviser further observed that, with bribes drying up for potential bidders, very few officials are now interested in taking up the role of project director.
