Government Transfers Title Deed of Gulshan House to Khaleda Zia

The government has officially handed over the title deed of a house in Gulshan to Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia.

Adilur Rahman Khan, Adviser to the Ministry of Housing and Public Works, personally delivered the deed to Khaleda Zia around 9:00 pm on Wednesday. Housing and Public Works Secretary Md Nazrul Islam and Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK) Chairman Riazul Islam were also present during the handover, confirmed ABM Abdus Sattar, Private Secretary to Khaleda Zia.

According to Sattar, the adviser brought some documents and handed them to the former prime minister, though he could not specify their exact nature.

Following the assassination of President Ziaur Rahman on May 31, 1981, his widow Khaleda Zia was allotted a residence on 1.5 bighas of land in Dhaka's upscale Gulshan area. This house is located near ‘Firoza’, the residence where she currently lives.

In addition to the Gulshan property, Khaleda Zia was also previously allotted a house in the Dhaka Cantonment area. However, that allocation was later cancelled by a previous Awami League administration.

Sources indicate that although Khaleda Zia had long held control over the Gulshan house, it had not been formally registered in her name until recently. The registration was finalized after the current interim government assumed office.

Officials from the Ministry of Public Works stated that the registration process has now been completed. The government had intended to formally present the deed earlier, but the handover was delayed due to Khaleda Zia’s health condition.
