Dhaka University to Host 1st International Conference on July Revolution Tomorrow
The first-ever International Conference on the July Revolution (ICJR-1, 2026) will be held tomorrow at Dhaka University (DU).
The day-long event will commence in the morning at the Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Building on the DU campus. The central theme of the conference is "The Legacy of the July Revolution 2024: Rebuilding Bangladesh."
The conference is jointly organised by Research and Integrated Thought (RIT), a Dhaka-based think tank, and the Department of Political Science at DU. It is being held in collaboration with the Political Science Department of Jagannath University, the University of Regina (Canada), the School of Social Sciences at Nanyang Technological University (Singapore), the School of Peace and Conflict Studies at Kent State University (USA), the International Institute of Law and Diplomacy, Bangladesh 2.0 Initiative (UK), Sochchar (USA), Insaf (Dhaka), the Center for Policy and Social Research (Turkey), the Center for Policy Analysis and Advocacy (Dhaka), and the Jagoron Foundation (UK).
Distinguished guests at the event will include Housing and Public Works Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan, Law Adviser Prof. Asif Nazrul, Education Adviser Prof. Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar, Special Envoy for International Affairs to the Chief Adviser Prof. Lutfey Siddiqi, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser Khoda Box Chowdhury, and Turkish academic and political thinker Prof. Dr. Yasin Aktay.
The conference will feature over 15 expert speakers and more than 10 live panel discussions.
Notable participants include Dr. Amr Abdalla, Emeritus Professor at the University for Peace (UPEACE), Costa Rica; Dr. Mahmudur Rahman, Editor of Amar Desh; Nurul Izzah Anwar, Deputy President of Malaysia’s Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) and Executive Chairperson of Polity Think Tank; Dr. Md Saidul Islam, Associate Professor at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore; Jon Danilowicz, retired U.S. diplomat; Dr. Syeda Sultana Razia, Professor at BUET; Sharif Banna, Chairman of the Jagoron Foundation (UK); and Dr. Usama Al-Azami, Professor at Hamad Bin Khalifa University, Qatar.
The organisers received over 400 research paper submissions from around the world. Following a rigorous peer-review process, 60 papers have been selected for oral presentation, and another 60 will be featured in poster sessions.
These presentations will be delivered by a diverse range of professors, activists, legal experts, student leaders, and policymakers—offering rich insights drawn from academic research, fieldwork, and lived experiences.
The conference will conclude with a theatrical performance titled "Lal July" (Red July) at the TSC Auditorium on the DU campus.
