Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has been deployed at 19 fuel depots across the country to curb hoarding, maintain order in fuel distribution, and ensure an uninterrupted supply of petroleum products.
The development was confirmed in a press release issued on Saturday (March 28), signed by BGB Headquarters’ Public Relations Officer Md Shariful Islam.
According to the statement, the ongoing crisis in the Middle East, coupled with rising global fuel prices and supply constraints, has triggered attempts at unauthorized hoarding. In response, the Ministry of Home Affairs directed the deployment to prevent such practices, ensure discipline in fuel marketing, and maintain a steady supply.
The release added that the operation is being carried out under a structured plan supervised by BGB Headquarters to safeguard depot security. Temporary base camps have been set up at secure locations, particularly in remote areas, to facilitate operations. Since the morning of March 25, BGB personnel have been stationed at 19 depots across nine districts: one in Dhaka, two in Kurigram, three in Rangpur, three in Rajshahi, two in Sylhet, three in Moulvibazar, three in Cumilla, and one each in Brahmanbaria and Sunamganj.
Each deployment is led by an officer overseeing operations from the temporary camps. Personnel are conducting regular monitoring, enforcing strict administrative and security measures, enhancing intelligence surveillance, and taking swift action to prevent illegal hoarding, unauthorized sales, or any potential sabotage.
BGB members are also maintaining close coordination with depot authorities to ensure timely information sharing. Their presence has helped keep fuel distribution stable while reinforcing public confidence.
