In a press release on Saturday, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) outlined several measures to ensure the smooth operation of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) and the well-being of the players involved. The 11th edition of the BPL concluded the previous day, with Fortune Barishal defeating Chittagong Kings in the final in Mirpur to secure back-to-back titles. However, the primary issue throughout the tournament was the non-payment of players.

Durbar Rajshahi, one of the new franchises, has been the most problematic, failing to settle the dues of both their local and foreign players. The franchise owner had promised to complete the payments by February 10 in three installments, but it appears the second installment, due yesterday, has not been paid. Among Rajshahi's foreign players, Sri Lankan Lahiru Samarakoon was drafted, while Zimbabwe’s Ryan Burl and Pakistan’s Mohammad Haris were direct signings. According to the BCB’s latest press release, while the board will assume responsibility for Samarakoon’s payment, it will not extend the same support for Burl and Haris.

The BCB also stated it would manage all logistical arrangements to facilitate the smooth return of overseas players to their home countries after fulfilling their BPL commitments. Additionally, the BCB will work closely with BPL franchises to establish stricter financial protocols, protect player interests, and streamline payment processes.

“These initiatives highlight the BCB’s commitment to maintaining the integrity of the BPL and ensuring a professional experience for all players, both domestic and international. The BCB will continue to engage with all stakeholders to strengthen the operational and financial aspects of the league,” said BCB president Faruque Ahmed in the press release.
