An Iranian drone strike has hit Kuwait’s airport, setting fuel storage tanks ablaze.
Kuwait’s civil aviation authority said on Wednesday that the country’s international airport was hit by an Iranian drone attack, triggering a “large fire” in fuel storage tanks.
According to the state-run Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), a spokesperson for the General Directorate of Civil Aviation said the airport had been targeted by drones launched by Iran and allied armed groups.
Spokesman Abdullah Al-Rajhi said the strike hit fuel tanks, causing a major blaze at the site, though no casualties were reported. The attack comes amid ongoing hostilities that began on February 28, when US-Israeli strikes targeted Iran, prompting Tehran to launch missiles and drones at Israel and US allies across the Gulf.
Elsewhere in the region on Wednesday, Bahrain’s interior ministry reported a fire at a commercial facility resulting from what it described as Iranian aggression, while Saudi Arabia’s defence ministry said several incoming drones were intercepted and destroyed.
In waters near Qatar, a tanker was also struck, according to a British maritime security agency. The UK Maritime Trade Operations said the vessel was hit by an unknown projectile about 17 nautical miles (31 kilometres) north of Doha, damaging the hull above the waterline. The crew were reported safe, and there was no environmental impact. Authorities are investigating the incident.
A day earlier, KUNA reported that an Iranian attack caused a fire on a Kuwaiti oil tanker at Dubai Port, though no injuries were recorded.
The oil-rich Gulf region has faced increasing attacks from Iran following the outbreak of the conflict, with Tehran warning it could target critical infrastructure, including energy facilities, across the region.
